Home Modifications
Home modifications refer to the process of converting or adapting the dwelling environment. This can be done for any number of reasons, but the primary objective is to make performing tasks easier, reducing the risk of accidents, and support of a independent living environment.
Home modifications range from low-cost to some more expensive accessible remodeling. Some of the forms of modifications include removing hazards (e.g., throw rugs and/or clutter), adding accessibility features or assisted devices (e.g., grab bars, wheelchair ramps), moving furnishings, changing where activities occur (e.g., sleeping on the first floor instead of on the second floor) and renovations (e.g., barrier-free shower and walk in baths). In some cases, modifying the home may also require home improvements such as improved wiring to eliminate the need for dangerous extension cords, or fixing loose stair treads.
